Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred Fishing Guide from IGGM – Unlock, Mechanics & Rewards Explained

Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred

Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred expansion added a fishing minigame, and to be honest, it’s actually quite good. Fishing along Skovos coast is a completely different and relaxing way to spend time after farming monsters.

The fishing system has existed in Diablo Immortal since 2023, where fish caught could be exchanged for log rewards. Diablo 4’s current fishing system focuses on achievements, but the precedent of expanding fishing’s uses already exists.

There are 117 types of fish to collect in Lord of Hatred Sanctuary, along with a grumpy NPC who will scold you for scaring them away, and at least one fishing spot will retaliate. Below is what you need to know about fishing in Lord of Hatred; IGGM will help you get started easily.

How to unlock fishing?

Fishing is a feature of Lord of Hatred expansion. You need to own expansion and progress through the early story until you complete the main quest The Queen and the Saint in the new Skovos area. After completing the main quest, when What’s Yet Unseen begins, a notification will pop up informing you that the priority quest Fishing is now available.

Then, head to Shi Yugong’s Haven, a dock located east of Temis. Find Shi Yugong and talk to him. He’ll scold you for being too loud, but then hand you a fishing rod and encourage you to do better next time. Completing this short quest will reward you with 14,800 gold and 814,073 experience points, and permanently unlock the fishing feature.

How to fish mechanic work?

Fishing in Diablo 4 is an emote, not a skill. Open the emote wheel, find Cast Fishing Line, and face any valid body of water to use it. If this emote isn’t already in your emote bar, please add it manually in the emote customization interface.

After the fishing line enters the water, wait patiently. When a fish takes the bait, you’ll see water splashing around the line, and an icon will appear above your character’s head. Quickly press the confirm button, and the fish will be hooked.

If you miss the optimal moment, you’ll need to try again. Fishing lacks a bait system, stamina bar, or complex timer. Patience and reaction speed are the only requirements.

After catching your first fish, pick it up from the ground, go to Consumables tab in your inventory, click, and add it to your collection. Of course, you might also get some odds and ends on your hook, such as old diaries and cowbells. These Diablo 4 items will go into your standard equipment inventory, and you can trade them with any merchant.

After successfully catching a fish for the first time, talking to Shi Yugong will trigger the side quest Favor for a Favor, which requires you to catch three specific fish: a Koalodon, a Silverbelly, and a Darkling.

Please note that not all fishing spots are calm. On the coastline east and north of Shi Yugong, you’ll find a location marked Blood in the Water. Casting there might catch Kraken Head enemies instead of fish, so IGGM urges you to be prepared.

Rewards

The main reward for fishing is progress tracking. Sanctuary has 117 different fish, and each fish you catch is added to your challenge log. Go to your collection, select the challenge banner, and scroll to the fishing category to check your progress.

Collecting all 117 fish species completes Tenacious Angler challenge and earns Salty Angler title. Collected fish can be traded for Diablo 4 gold with any merchant. Currently, duplicate catches of fish have no other use.

However, accumulating Gold this way can be a bit slow. If you urgently need a large amount of Gold to complete your character setup, you can also buy Diablo 4 gold from IGGM. This is definitely a wise move for players who want to quickly accelerate their game progress and gain an advantage.

As of now, we haven’t found any methods to craft items using fish, but this doesn’t mean there aren’t recipes that require fish; we just might not have found them yet.

Tips

Here are some fishing tips from IGGM for Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred, which we hope you’ll find helpful:

  • The types of fish in each body of water are randomized and only include fish unique to that area. You can’t catch all the fish in an area at one spot, so try each spot repeatedly until the fish you’re catching starts recurring before moving on to the next.
  • The Challenges menu is your best navigation tool: fishing entries are divided by area, which tells you when you’ve explored a particular area. After each fishing session, you can see which areas still have uncaught fish.
  • Shi Yugong also provides side quests that guide you to find specific fish species. Accepting these quests will give you hints on how to find them.
  • You can fish in various bodies of water, including rivers, coastal waters, and lava fields. Some unusual waters may contain fish you previously missed.
  • When Favor for a Favor quest sends you to find a specific fish, check Challenges tab first. The save location hints that there will narrow down the spawn areas for each fish.

This concludes the information provided by IGGM regarding fishing in Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred expansion. This information may change if fish receive additional features in future updates, so please stay tuned for updates.
